About Us
Welcome to Archnews!
-we dig up archaeology news and more!
Why did we start and what’s the purpose of Archnews?
Whether you are an archaeologist or interested in archaeology you have probably gone online and looked for some archaeological sites. Quite quickly you realize that you have to go to a lot of different sites often from different countries to get what you look for. Often they are also written in several languages as well.
We at Archnews saw this as a great problem for archaeology world-wide! Archaeology is a special kind of science where things can change very rapidly. New excavations bring new results and re-interpretation of old archaeology gives new knowledge. This means the world of archaeology is constantly changing. The need for quick information is of great value. For archaeologists it is often hard to keep track of all excavations or new knowledge in their own country, especially since you are also busy with your own archaeological work.
It becomes even harder looking at archaeology from other countries and comparing it with what you are working with. Conclusion was there was a need for an archaeological platform online! A place where both archaeologists and people interested in archaeology could meet and get different kinds of archaeological content.
So that’s why we created Archnews! This is a site where you will get the latest news and information concerning the whole world of archaeology! You will also get different kinds of articles covering everything from digital archaeology, fortresses in the United Kingdom to blood rituals among the Aztec and a lot more. We also bring you some great videos and podcasts!
To know how to clean and preserve artifacts, how to recognize different kinds of bones is often difficult to find online. So we decided to have “how to” guides that in easy ways explain this for you. This is useful for both archaeologists and people interested in archaeology. We also give you sheets and other useful resources to be used in the field or when doing research and surveys.
To discuss what’s happening in the world of archaeology we also give you a forum! But that’s not enough, you can also download an app and access our forum with your Iphone, Ipad and Ipod Touch! Great when in the field and you want to get help from the community! Together it will be possible to bring archaeology to new levels!
Archnews is run by archaeologists and people studying archaeology. Our competence ranges from zooarchaeology, ancient and classical history to digital and arctic archaeology and much more. We are from all over the world to ensure we have good quality of our content!
